Therapeutic Groups
Nurture Space brings small groups of children together in a safe, supportive environment where they can build confidence, develop emotional awareness and strengthen social connections.
Each therapeutic group is carefully tailored to the needs of the children and may include elements of Therapeutic Play and Clay Conversations. Through creative, play-based activities, children are encouraged to explore emotions, develop coping strategies, build resilience and enhance communication and relationship skills.
Nurture Space is often an effective early intervention for schools, providing targeted support for children with emerging or lower-level emotional needs. By fostering emotional wellbeing in a small-group setting, children can develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive both in the classroom and beyond.
Therapeutic Play group sessions typically involve three to four children and are facilitated by a qualified Therapeutic Play Practitioner. Groups usually run for six to ten weeks, with one session each week. Each session lasts between 45 minutes and one hour and takes place at the same time and on the same day each week, providing children with consistency and routine.
Before the programme begins, an initial consultation is held with the school to discuss the children's needs and agree the main objectives for the group. This collaborative planning ensures that the sessions are tailored to support the group's emotional and developmental needs.
To help measure progress, a Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is completed for each child before the programme begins and again at the end of the intervention. An end-of-programme report is also provided, summarising the group's progress, outcomes and recommendations where appropriate.
